Go to your downloads folder (or wherever OptiFine is located) in explorer and paste cmd into the path bar. The command line should open. Paste in java -jar OptiFine_mcver_HD_U_ver.jar, replacing “mcver” with the Minecraft version and"ver" with the OptiFine version (basically change it to the name of the OptiFine installer).

Installing Optifine (even Previews) without Java installed: Step 1: Open Command line (type CMD in search bar) Step 3: Type"Java -jar" into the command line, then click and drag the .jar Optifine installer package (downloaded from Optifine.net) into it. It should auto-fill the path to the file in the command line. Step 4: Hit Enter :)

Try and follow these steps: First you need to have Java installed, go to Java.com and install that if you haven't already. Second download the version of OptiFine you want on OptiFine.net. Third, make sure that you launched the version of Minecraft you want to install OptiFine for, (for example 1.16) at least once from the Minecraft Launcher.

So I was downloading optifine and whenever I try to open the installer for it, it always opens on notepad. I accidentally set it so that it opens it on notepad, is there any way to undo it and not open it from notepad?
